Smithers National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Thursday September 30th, 2021 7:00pm-8:00pm
Bukley Valley Museum - Smithers, BC
We will not forget.
Let's come together (distantly) to honour the 6000+ bodies of Indigenous children found at Indian Residential Schools (IRS). These children were gone far too soon through unimaginable violence and trauma. The intergenerational effects from the harm conducted by the Canadian Government and the Catholic church prevails to this day. Racism and violence against Indigenous people reinforces this trauma. September 30th we will pay respects for the lives lost, and those who have survived Indian Residential Schools.
Please join us on the corner of Main Street and Highway-16 (outside the museum) to light candles, and share a space of healing.
Please be sure to bring candles, drums, posters, flowers, or any other supplies you would like to support the day of healing.
What to expect:
- Opening Prayer
- Speeches from local advocates and those with lived experience
- Open Mic
We will not forget. Every child matters.
