ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Matt Herzog is the Director of Emergency Support Services for the Bulkley Valley and Assistant Fire Chief for Smithers Fire Rescue. He also works as a Paramedic for BCEHS and as a teacher at Coast Mountain Collage where he teaches a high school class called Introduction to Healthcare. Matt has been a firefighter for 13 years and a paramedic for 11.

Shane van de Water is a Registered Professional Forester and Lieutenant with Smithers Fire Rescue. As a Forester, he works in the field of Wildfire Risk Reduction and recently took on the role of FireSmart Coordinator with the Town of Smithers and the Village of Telkwa. Shane has four years of experience working with the Provincial Rapattack program and is involved in the delivery of Smithers Fire Rescue’s wildfire response program. He is committed to enhancing the community’s resiliency to emergency events through public engagement and education, as well as through his work as a Forester and his involvement with local emergency response agencies.
